Location & Geology
The forest is located near Steinenbach in the Ortenau region, in a diverse transitional landscape between the Rhine Plain and the Black Forest. The terrain features gently to moderately sloping hillsides, narrow valleys and small-scale terrain steps. The interweaving of forest, viticulture and open land gives the site special ecological significance.
- Soil: Predominantly deep, nutrient-rich brown soils from loess-loam layers over sandstone with good water absorption; on steeper sections, shallower, stony sites.
- Climate: Warm-temperate climate with marked Upper Rhine influence and a long growing season. Increasing summer drought and heavy rainfall events pose demands on soil protection and stand stability.
- Vegetation: Deciduous-dominated stands with beech and oak as main species, supplemented by maple, ash and cherry. Existing natural regeneration provides good starting points for multi-layered stand development.

Selection Forest Structure Development
Forest development follows a clear, long-term strategy aimed at building structurally rich and resilient mixed forests. On storm-damaged areas, the removal of competitors per target tree and crown reduction of service trees is recommended, with biomass remaining in the stand. In pine stands, targeted interventions maintain the open forest character. In selection forest areas, individual tree removal and deliberate retention of non-utilizable stems promote horizontal structural diversity and the creation of microclimatic zones and microhabitats.
Permanent Satellite Monitoring
In cooperation with Remote Sensing Solutions GmbH (RSS), we permanently monitor all our forests. If a forest fire or deforestation is detected, tokens are immediately locked.
